Gum Disease Treatment Maryville TN
Gum Disease Is the Most Common Reason For Tooth Loss
Although it is commonly assumed that decay is the reason for most tooth loss, it is in fact gum disease. Sometimes symptoms make the infection evident – bleeding gums from brushing or flossing and loose or shifting teeth. In many cases, there are no symptoms until the infection reaches an advanced stage. The earlier the infection is treated, the more likely it is that surgery can be avoided and alternative treatments can successfully control and even reverse the problem.

Gum Disease Can Mean More Problems Than Just Tooth Loss
Medical research has discovered a startling link between gum disease and serious health conditions such as stroke, diabetes, and heart conditions. The bacteria in the gums also travels throughout the bloodstream, affecting vital organs, which can compound any pre-existing conditions or contibute to the onset of these diseases.

The American Dental Association believes that 80% of the adult American population has periodontal (gum) disease at some stage. Dentists consider this high percentage to be a nationwide epidemic, and with new evidence linking gum infections to life-threatening conditions, a much more serious matter.

The American Academy of Periodontology reports that "studies found periodontal infection may contribute to the development of heart disease, increase the risk of premature, underweight births, and pose a serious threat to people whose health is already compromised due to diabetes and respiratory diseases."

What Other Problems Result From Missing Teeth?

Even one missing tooth can cause other teeth to shift or move. This is not good, as other teeth can loosen and be lost. Chewing without a full set of teeth loses some of the nutrients you should be getting out of your food. And food choices may change, favoring softer, less nutritious foods that are easier to eat. Often this type of diet will add unwanted pounds to your weight.

Speech may not always be clear, resulting in embarrassment for you at work and in your social life. And your face eventually takes on a sunken look that adds years to your appearance.

Dental implants have proven to be the ideal replacement for missing teeth. They look completely natural and function just like real teeth. You will be pleased with your smile and regaining the ability to chew every type of food.

Invisalign Dentist

The Clear Alternative in Orthodontics
With today's orthodontic innovations, you can have straight teeth in just 9 – 15 months. With Invisalign™ clear aligners, we can correct the problems of gaps, overcrowding, overbite, underbite, and crossbite without the appearance of braces. Dr. Moss is very pleased to offer his patients this advanced method for straightening teeth.

With 3-D computer technology, a complete treatment plan is outlined starting with the current alignment of your teeth and progressing to your new smile. From this plan, thermoplastic aligners that resemble teeth whitening trays are created. You start with the first set and approximately every two weeks, you move on to the next set. They gently move your teeth to a new position with each set of aligners, until you reach your last set and obtain your desired smile.

You only need to make office visits for a check-up every one to two months. You total treatment time depends on your needs and goals.
The Discreet Choice for Confident Straightening
One of the reasons patients choose Invisalign is that they are nearly invisible. Unlike metal braces, they are not noticeable unless someone looks at your teeth extremely close up. This adds to your confidence for your professional and social life during active treatment.

Aligners are one piece each for the upper and lower teeth. There are no irritating wires to adjust, no bulky metal attached to your teeth, and no headgear. This means no mouth irritation, making Invisalign very comfortable from start to finish.

A very big plus is that you can eat whatever you want during your months of treatment. They are removable for brushing and flossing, so there are no restrictions on what you can eat and drink. You don't have to give up the foods you love for months! They are easily replaced after cleaning your teeth and comfortable enough to wear all day and while you sleep.
